Spring is undoubtedly the most beautiful season to discover Annecy. The snow melts on the peaks of La Tournette, the Jardins de l’Europe burst with color, and the Alpine air regains an incomparable softness.
After winter, there’s nothing like getting back in the saddle to wake your legs up. Whether you’re with family, as a couple, or with friends, here are our 3 favorite routes to cycle this spring starting from our 3 rental shops in Annecy, Annecy-le-Vieux, or Sevrier.
Spring in Annecy is, above all, nature awakening. This short, accessible route takes you to the most flower-filled parks.
The route: Set off from the Old Town, cross Le Pâquier and follow the lake toward the Impérial Palace. Continue on to Albigny Beach.
Why in spring? For the magnificent Japanese cherry trees and the tulip beds lining the promenade. The parks are a brilliant green before the intense heat of summer.
Bike tip: A classic city bike is more than enough for this flat 5 to 8 km ride.
If you want to see nature waking up far from the bustle of the city center, this is the ideal route.
The route: Take the Voie Verte (West bank) toward Saint-Jorioz, then Doussard. You’ll reach the nature reserve at the southern tip of the lake.
Why in spring? This is when the reed beds turn green, and you can spot many migratory birds and beavers (if you’re quiet!). The temperature on the bike path is perfect at this time of year: neither too hot nor too cool.
Bike tip: To cover the 35–40 km round trip without getting tired, go for an Electric-Assisted Bike (EAB).
For those who want to gain some height and see the lake from above without the summer crowds.
The route: Climb the small roads from Les Marquisats up to the Basilica of the Visitation.
Why in spring? The view is clear: you’ll see the striking contrast between the lake’s turquoise blue and the surrounding peaks still heavily snow-capped. It’s the ideal time to take spectacular landscape photos.
Cycling tip: Here, the electric bike is your best friend for tackling the elevation gain with a smile.
Manage your clothing layers: In spring, the sun warms up quickly but the air stays cool near the water. Bring a light windbreaker, even if the weather is nice.
Check the times: The days are getting longer! It’s the perfect time to rent a bike at the end of the day and enjoy the “Golden Hour” on the lake (around 6:00 pm in April or 7:00 pm in May, June, July and August).
Plan for the weather: A brief passing shower is always possible in the mountains. All our bikes are equipped with mudguards to keep you dry!
Our bike fleets are serviced and ready for the season! Whether you’re looking for a high-performance road bike, a comfortable hybrid bike or a latest-generation electric bike, we have what you need.
